life is short you're capable from Charm About You

Life is short You're Capable hand embroidered on decorative pillow with tassels in the corners of the pillow and loose ribbon and thread spool next to it

I made a thing! The original plan was for this to be a pincushion but I like it too much to stick pins in it, so it's a decorative little pillow. I like just having it around, a nice reminder and message to myself.

I designed this embroidery pattern as a companion to my You're Capable cushion/mini quilt pattern, which was inspired by Gwen Stefani lyrics and created to give empowerment.

Life is short You're Capable embroidered on dot fabric with needle and thread still there and needle resting on a stork needle minder

It was a quick stitch, using couching with double strands and a single stand, and 3 strands for the back stitch with Aurifloss in # ???. It was ...

sewing machine cover from Charm About You

I have been wanting a new machine cover for a while. My previous handmade one didn't cover the sides, the room I sew in can get quite sunny and a full cover gives better protection and stops dust too. After seeing this free pattern for a Serger and Sewing Machine Cover by Closet Core Patterns, I went on the hunt for fabric. The print they used was gorgeous and canvas seemed like a good choice. Sew Hot had this Poolside by Cotton + Steel print so it jumped into my basket in a recent haul, along with some black velvet ...

Its All Coming Together from Midget Gem Quilts

Things are all coming together nicely here in our household bubble of 2 as lockdown begins to ease in the UK, and specifically for us in N Ireland. People in general are out and about, wisely or not I am not sure. The shops are opening again. The pubs that serve food are opening again, and bars with outdoor space are opening again. For most people life is beginning to return to the new normal. For us, life is slowly, tentatively changing too. I am still shielding but am "allowed, indeed encouraged to go for walks outside the home, once ...

Reasons I Should Blog, Number 1015 from Midget Gem Quilts

Reasons I should blog? There are all the obvious reasons that spring to mind, the companionship of fellow makers, the communal bouncing around of ideas. There are the reasons that don't come into it for me, raising of the profile, the self promotion for a business. One of the lesser known reasons is that it actually helps my organisational skills. You see, as I have said before, I quite often have no great plan. I don't have a computer programme to plot out my quilts, there would be no point, I wouldn't use it. Sometimes I draw ...

✦ crossed orange peel cushion ✦ from Charm About You

Don't you love it when a plan comes together? Even better when you finish a project you have been meaning to work on for some time, when the initial plan you had changes and turns out better as a result. This version of my Crossed Orange Peel pattern was a challenge to myself, using slightly more difficult seam construction and it's my project for the April Aurifil Artisan challenge, which is to create a project using my favourite Aurifil thread. That is like a trick question though because I genuinely love and use all the different types of ...

a (somewhat) needed sunday stash from Charm About You

I bought fabric at Festival of Quilts and the Stitch Gathering - supporting those artists and shops I love - but there's not been much fabric shopping going on and that's mostly down to the fact that I want to be using what I have. There are plenty of times I do 'fake shopping', adding beautiful fabric to online baskets but I don't hit 'checkout' because I know that it will ultimately end up in the piles and piles of fabric I already have. The decision to buy fabric now has to be because I need it for a ...

November Accomplishments from Sew Patched Up

And just like that, November is gone. Well, it actually left last week but that’s ok. So, how was November you ask? (even if you didn’t ask, I’m telling…lol) It was great! I didn’t get as much done as I … Continue reading
